Our History

  • 1996

    HatchTech begins life as a designer, manufacturer and supplier of ostrich incubators. Founder Tjitze Meter’s philosophy – that incubation can be done differently – is already firmly in place.

  • 1997

    Lagerwey, a leading Dutch poultry producer, contracts HatchTech to help design its new hatchery and develop the hatchery’s ventilation system.

  • 1998

    With the support of leading poultry researchers, Tjitze Meter discovers the importance of maintaining optimal embryo temperatures during incubation. The HatchTech MicroClimer concept is born.

  • 1999

    HatchTech receives an order for the delivery of a complete Lagerwey hatchery and also works with a Dutch supplier to develop a new incubator.

  • 2001

    HatchTech expands its product engineering operations.

  • 2003

    Work begins on the first prototype of the HatchBrood machine.

  • 2004

    HatchTech launches its own in-house research department with the addition of two PhD students.

  • 2005

    HatchTech begins developing cooling and heating systems on a customer-by-customer basis.

  • 2008

    Launch of HatchTech’s Chinese business unit.

  • 2012

    Development of the HatchCare hatcher system begins, based on key learnings from HatchBrood.

  • 2013

    HatchCare undergoes development for commercial use. Meanwhile, the HatchCare Experience Centre opens at HatchTech’s headquarters in Veenendaal.

  • 2014

    HatchCare is revealed to the public at the VIV and EuroTier trade fairs, resulting in HatchTech winning the VIV Innovation Award for Hatching & Breeding.

  • 2015

    The first HatchCare hatchers are installed at hatcheries in the Netherlands and Canada. Meanwhile, HatchTech’s Ukrainian operation opens its doors. HatchTech also secures a patent for a slow-warming profile at the start of the incubation process.

  • 2016

    The HatchTech Research Team completes and defends its PhD project: Effects of temperature and CO2 during late incubation on broiler chicken development.

  • 2017

    The world’s first ‘transparent hatchery’ – Optibrut GmbH – opens in Germany. Seleggt, a joint venture between HatchTech and REWE focused on in-egg gender identification, is founded.

  • 2018

    Seleggt wins the CIWF Best Innovation award in Paris, while Respeggt eggs developed through the joint venture go on sale across 255 German supermarkets. Tjitze Meter wins the 2018 VIV European Poultry Breeder Personality Award.

  • 2020

    HatchTech develops and provides Seleggt a carrousel to make in-ovo sexing reality on a bigger scale. Being the first in the world to have Respeggt eggs commercial available in retail stories in Germany, the Netherlands and France.
